Portland, Oregon's The Thermals have carved out a beautiful niche in the punk-pop world over the last 10 years, but it hasn't always been the easiest road to glory. In 2010, The Thermals teamed up with Death Cab For Cutie's Chris Walla to create their fifth studio album, "Personal Life." Both songs in this session are featured on that album, and as Pitchfork.com says, they are "pretty damn catchy!"
Blitzen Trapper are about to transcend to that next level. To become that band that combines all that was good about Bob Dylan and The Grateful Dead with all that was good about Neil Young and Pavement yet make it all completely their own and without taking too much from any one of those influences. They, along with some other talent based in the Pacific Northwest, are becoming the voices and creating the sounds that will likely define this type of music for this generation. Intelligent, heartfelt and free but with respect to those that have come before.
We Are Scientists and Oxford Collapse stopped by our VIBES II performance space location to drink some beer, eat some melon, grill out and record some songs with us. We were joined by the excellent crew from Super!Alright!/Dell Summer Rocks for this session, so we handed the reigns over to them to see what they would come up. It was a perfect Summer day with all the fixins.
