For the last couple years, or what seemed like an eternity, I had hoped to see DeVotchKa live. The Denver-based band's blends of American folk and punk with Eastern European flavors have long been a favorite in my ears.
In May of this year, I was fortunate to catch them for the first of what, to this point, would end up being three shows (the other two being Monolith and Voodoo). The Vogue Theater, here in Indianapolis, offered what would be the most intimate of the three. The band spent time with the fans, the gymnastic portion of the show took place within the crowd and lead singer Nick Urata was very friendly and conversational during the show. It was by no means a packed house, but the crowd that was on hand was enthusiastic, engaged and polite. Here are six videos from that concert, shot and edited by Marshall Baumgartner and recorded by Jeff DuPont.
