We've locked horns with Arizona band member Ben, the self-described "Keith Richards Dreyfuss" of rock, in Bloggers Vs. Rockers Fantasy Football and his band actually visited with My Old Kentucky Blog back in the pre-Laundromatinee.com days. So, when Arizona joined us at Savvy Salon this year, it was fun to see how much the band had progressed and how very much many of the best things about the band were remaining the same.
The members of the band are witty and fun to be around, as you can see in this interview with Dave Allen at Pamplemoose where Ben reveals the origin of the band's name, which relates to a great story about a child molester, revenge, urine and Arizona iced tea. At work however, they're all business and even border on the tedious/perfectionist tip.
The band's sound seems to spring from jammy roots and grows up paths influenced by classic and fantasy rock sounds from the 70s. Arizona piles the harmonies high on top of distorted and reverberating textures and deftly switches music gears without warning within song arrangements.
In 2008, the band released their most recent long-player, Glowing Bird. The album was recorded in their new city-of-residence, (moving from Brooklyn) Ashville, North Carolina at Echo Mountain Recording Studio. During the process, the band also filmed a four-part documentary featuring a series of b-sides, which you can find over at IGIF.
