Video Session : Bob Schneider

For the last ten years or so, Austin, Texas based Bob Schneider has been billed as "the next big thing" in alt-country/rock-pop music.  He has built a large, loyal and passionate following through years of touring.  Having been described as Austin's "Golden Boy", he is one of the most popular musicians currently making music in the live music capital of the world.  It is a believable scenario that Schneider is content as the big fish in the pond that is Austin, but it is also realistic to believe that he is still just a couple steps away from exploding on a large-scale national level.

Schneider built a reputation as a "sexist, obscene pig" as lead singer of bands like The Scabs and the Ugly Americans, but he shows a deeper, more confessional and very sensitive side in his solo work.  This need for unbridled expression is what got him an opening slot for The Dixie Chicks, also huge proponents of free speech, on a recent tour.

You deep indie types may scoff, but there is no denying Schneider's talent.  He is a bit of a of a tough nut to crack really.  His sound blends multiple genres...country, rock, pop and even hip-hop and funk most commonly.  He tells honest-to-a-fault stories.

Schneider also seems to be obsessive about the creation of art and music.  He is incredibly prolific.  Prolific to the point where you really need to be a Bob Schneider obsessive to keep up with him.  He has released hundreds of songs, but says he has thousands stockpiled that never fit the direction or needs of an album or band.  He designs his own album art, packaging, posters, and T-shirts.  He even showcases his fine art creations at local Austin galleries.

Schneider, no matter how it all shakes out, brings you many flavors to sample and enjoy - much like the music city/scene in which he is so beloved.
