I orginally discovered the talented Dana Falconberry at SXSW, a few years back, through her work with Peter & The Wolf. Dana grew up in Michigan where she studied ballet and modern dance. She moved south to Arkansas for college and, after graduation, recorded a project with Mark Shantz, a professor at the college who had accompanied many of her dance pieces. Ten Birds on One Wire was recorded at Sun Studios in Memphis and released in 2005. Like many musicians, she soon found her way to Austin, TX and met up with Red Hunter, the primary for Peter & The Wolf. While contributing to his project, she recorded her own debut EP Paper Sailboat. Falconberry has hypnotized the Austin locals with her own brand of powerful yet intimate lo-fi folk narratives and quickly established herself as an artist to pay close attention to. She was even named Top Female Vocalist by The Austin Chronicle this year. In September of 2008, Dana released her first full-length effort, Oh Skies Of Grey, a deeply personal, often pleasant, occasionally dark effort that is still filled with strength and optimism.
This Spring, Dana stopped by The Laundromatinee, touring in support of the album and playing in various vintage clothing stores throughout the Midwest and South. She was accompanied by Gina Dvorak, Lauren McMurray, and Andrew Bergmann. The group performed four previously released tracks and two new ones from a not-yet-recorded/untitled upcoming release.
