It was kind of shocking to not see De Novo Dahl fully decked out in their Vegas-style Elvis suits or their muscle man uniforms when the band performed for The Laundromatinee, but it was also refreshing. It was great to see that when you stripped away all the showboat and pomp these pranksters of the Nashville scene exude, there was still a really good rock band underneath.
The band has none of the honky-tonk vibe you might expect from the region, but they do bring the kind of stage show that artists from the city are historically known for. Their songs are infectious, a little spastic, and if you don't have a great time at their show or feel your body start to bounce and sway while listening to their album, you might want to check your pulse.
De Novo Dahl mixes elements of surf rock, funk, brit-rock and glam into a strong bowl of power pop. It is doubtful you'll ever see De Novo Dahl at The Grand Ole Opry, but they'll sure as heck rock a dance party with the best of them.
