Imagine, if you will, that the members of the original lineup of My Morning Jacket fell through some wormhole, ended up in early-90s Seattle and formed alongside bands like the Screaming Trees and Nirvana. If you can wrap your brain around this Lost-style scenario, you can start to get a feel for the sound of Dead Confederate. Alternating between darkly driving guitar-rock and vast, ponderous lyrical set-pieces, the band’s new album Wrecking Ball lays out anthems for hot boozy nights in the deep, dark woods.
Dead Confederate has been together for awhile in various forms (and under various names) but by 2006 had evolved into its current form, playing locally out of out of their current home base of Athens, GA. In 2008, the band was signed to The Artist Organization and released their self-titled first EP. This EP, along with performances at SXSW, helped the band gain quick momentum. The band has spent the early part of 2009 in the UK with Darker My Love and A Place to Bury Strangers and returned stateside to support Dinosaur Jr. for the southern leg of their U.S. tour.
