Everything, Now! is one of the hardest working, most prolific indie rock bands Indianapolis has to offer. In 2007 the band self-released two quality, under-the-radar long-players in Ugly Magic and Bible Universe. They returned this year to release Spacially Severed.
Everything, Now! has always been sort of A.D.D.. They seem to be willing to explore all areas of rock on each and every album. Garage and psychedelic sounds blend into what they are now calling "space gospel." In typical odd-ball fashion the says the new album is "like drinking the sky or sleeping in a rainbow, impossibly hard to imagine but easy to believe!"
E,N! was the first local band I spent any "quality" time with. I set up an interview at an in-store performance (with The Black Keys). The band was quite large back then. There might have been up to ten members if I remember correctly. As we sat on their modified school bus, while one of them gnawed on a raw ear of corn, it all seemed a little overwhelming and the interview ended up being quite short and pointless, as I was completely unprepared.
The band has pared down in recent years to a solid four-piece of still very experimental space rock. There is less clutter and more direction than ever before.
The other day, someone actually said to me they believed Everything, Now! to be the most influencial Indianapolis band in the last 10 years as far as their impact on other local bands. Not being in a band, I can't really speak to that one way or the other, but it speaks to the respect the local musicians and scene have for this band.
As I touched on earlier, the members of Everyting, Now! have always been a little wacky, full of off-the-wall ideas. On this day, they brought a variety of cameras and recording devices to fill out the set, along with their own "camera man" who you'll pop up now and then throughout the videos. We didn't quite "get it", but I don't think we were supposed to. We did like it though. That sorta sums Everything, Now! up. You may not always get it, but in the end, I bet you like it.
