Video Session : Langhorne Slim & The War Eagles
Wiffle ball and great music...better than chicken and waffles!

For whatever reason, we had a lot of trouble with our audio set-up the day Langhorne Slim (aka Sean Scolnick) and his War Eagles (Paul Defiglia on bass and Malachi DeLorenzo on drums) came through town.  This easy-going band didn't mind.  They walked out to the tour van and busted out a couple age-old pieces of sports equipment that are very near and dear to my heart...the wiffle ball and bat.

See, growing up, my older brother Chris pretty much forced this "sport" upon us.  If we weren't playing football in the backyard or basketball in the driveway, it was wiffle ball.  My fondest wiffle ball memory comes from a time when my father, a now retired politician and school teacher, was running for re-election.  The shed in the backyard was the storage facitity for that year's campaign election signs.  My brother made us drag out at least one hundred it seemed and haul them over to a nearby plot of land that had been leveled for incoming housing.  He then proceeded to arrange an outer wall of signs.  The plot of land quickly became "Re-Elect Bill Lile Stadium".  We were quite pleased with ourselves.  The age-old argument of what was and wasn't a wiffle ball home run would now be settled once and for all and we were doing some pretty hardcore campaigning for our dear old dad.

So, while Jeff reworked our new audio equipment, I was happy to join the band in recapturing a blissful piece of my youth.  Sean and I laughed and enjoyed the heated rivalry between Malachi and Paul.  Arguements about pitching stikes versus serving it up ensued.  The ball was pounded over, around and through the studio performance space and all surrounding outdoor areas, and when all was said and done the band performed a wonderful extended session for us.

Langhorne and co. released a self-titled full-length through Kemado Records this year and it's a beauty.  Behind the strength of excellent lead single Restless, the album has been a consistant spinner in my cd drives and mp3 players.

We're working on some nice b-roll from this session, but for now, enjoy these performance cuts and a small taste at the beginning of that b-reel.
