Video Session : We Are Scientists & Oxford Collapse

The crew from Super!Alright!, an Austin, Texas-based "boutique multi-platform media company", joined us shortly after finishing up some work at Lollapalooza earlier this year. We were hosting We Are Scientists and Oxford Collapse, but we decided to hand the reigns over to their crew to record, shoot and edit the session.  They were tooling around on the Dell Summer Rocks tour, and due to this funding, were working with some far superior gear - beyond the fact that they're all insanely talented and passionate guys (and girl).  Point is, we were happy to let them run wild and see what they would come up with.  All we had to do was hang out, listen to the music, drink some beers and grill out...a pretty perfect day!

Both bands released new records this year.  Brooklyn's We Are Scientists, after losing core member Michael Tapper, rallied and released Brain Thrust Mastery - their second major label record with Virgin Records/EMI.  Some have called out the sophomore slump on this album, and now is not really the time or the place to dive into that discussion, but there are without question, a couple really solid pop gems on the album - After Hours, which you can watch here, is definitely one of them.

The NYC-based three-piece Oxford Collapse released their fourth album, Bits, this year through Sub Pop Records.  It is said the band wrote over 30 songs for this album before whittling it down to the final thirteen.

Bonus Album Cuts:

Oxford Collapse - Birthday Wars
Oxford Collapse - Lady Lawyers
Oxford Collapse - Please Visit You National Parks

Recorded, shot and edited by Super!Alright!

Sophomore Slump?!?
the above article states that some have called "Brain Thrust Mastery" a sophomore slump for WE ARE SCIENTISTS. whoever claims such is out of their minds!! minus the tone deaf chick on "Dance Off," "Brain Thrust Mastery" is one of the most wholly perfect albums i have ever heard and equaled only by "With Love and Squalor." SCIENTISTS' second album has the same dynamic energy but from a cleaner, more refined point of view. all achieved without losing that cock rock attitude that their sound and subject matters leans toward. rarely does a band transition so smoothly into a more mature sound without dropping their original aesthetics. sophomore slump? bitch please.

hmmm....
I would say you're in the minority. Many wouldn't agree : http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/record_review/49218-brain-thrust-mastery (just as an example) Personally, I wasn't into as much as their first.
