Chicago's Maps & Atlases have been called many things. Every label from folk-rock, art-rock, prog-rock, and math-rock has been chucked on the band. They don't really care what you call them. If you're into one of those genres and believe they fit, they'll take it.
The band released their debut album Perch Patchwork in 2010 through Barsuk Records. Having released two EPs previous to the debut LP, their sound has continued to morph into a more enticing folk/pop-infused direction. They are still very much exploring tempo and key changes, unusual rhythms and complex instrumental layers, but the basics of the song remain accessible and energetic, appealing to wider audiences than they might have in the past.
During their session with Laundromatinee.com, the band gave us three tracks from the album as well as a celebratory take on Bob Marley's Redemption Song. Marley's birthday was this past February 6th.
